Michela Semprebon e Gianfranco Bonesso presenteranno l’attività di ricerca svolta nell’ambito del progetto INSigHT con focus sull’accattonaggio da parte di giovani uomini e giovani donne nigeriane in Italia. Parleranno dell’osservazione del fenomeno svolta sul territorio della città di Venezia, delle interviste realizzate con le unità di contatto italiane che si occupano (anche) di accattonaggio, con forze dell’ordine, procuratori e procuratrici. Con l’occasione verrà presentato l’e-book “La pratica dell’accattonaggio, tra libertà di scelta, sfruttamento, tratta e connessioni con la criminalità organizzata. Focus sulle persone nigeriane” che riporta i principali risultati di ricerca, incluso anche un breve focus sull’accattonaggio in Nigeria un focus sulle connessioni emerse tra accattonaggio, tratta, sfruttamento e criminalità organizzata in Italy.  Parteciperanno alla discussione alcuni operatori e operatrici delle unità di contatto intervistati per fare il punto sulle evoluzioni del fenomeno dell’accattonaggio dall’inizio della pandemia da COVID-19. Sarà un’occasione per un confronto su un fenomeno ancora poco analizzato. Sono benvenuti/e partecipanti da altri Paesi EU e non-EU, in particolare la Nigeria, per condividere le proprie conoscenze sull’accattonaggio.

Michela Semprebon and Gianfranco Bonesso will present the research activity carried out in the context of the INSigHT Action with focus on begging by young Nigerian men and women in Italy. They will report on their observation of the phenomenon in the city of Venice, on the interviews undertaken with outreach units in Italy that will deal (also) with begging, with law enforcement officers and prosecutors. With the occasion they will present the e-book “The practice of begging between freedom of choice, exploitation, trafficking and connections with organised crime. Focus on Nigerian people” that reports the main research findings, included a short focus on begging in Nigeria and the connections that emerged between begging, trafficking, exploitation and organised crime in Italy.  Some outreach workers will participate to the webinar to report on their observations on the on-going evolutions of the phenomenon of begging since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. It will be an occasion to discuss on a phenomenon that is still little analysed. Participants from other EU and non-EU countries, especially Nigeria, are welcome to join and share their knowledge on begging.

The INSigHT Action has the main aim to increase the capacity of key local stakeholders in the Veneto Region (Italy), Edo State and Lagos (Nigeria) and Stockholm (Sweden) to tackle human trafficking and to deal with its evolving dynamics, trends, forms and modus operandi, with specific attention to women and girls, while promoting knowledge-based policy making in the respective countries and reinforcing transnational cooperation. This series of webinars has the main goal of sharing the findings that have been emerging from the research conducted by the INSigHT Action Research Team and to continue contributing to the debate in collaboration with researchers, operators, law enforcement agencies, lawyers, policy-makers, cultural-linguistic operators and all relevant actors.
